Rugby World Cup Countdown 3
September 11th 2007 08:53
Now only two sleeps and two more working days until I take off for France and the World Cup. Things are looking better - decidedly better. The mountain of trivia has shrunk to a hill and the nail-bitingly stressful obstacles seem more like interesting challenges.
At school, powered by one those bursts of energy that only happen when procrastination is no longer an option, I marked, recorded, sorted, filed and discarded. I dashed off notes and emails, returned borrowed books and resources, cleared and cleaned. But it didn't stop at school. I powered on through the afternoon, bowling over fines and bills, suspending, renewing and re-registering. There's still a pile of things to do, but it's surmountable.
Big red is packed with the whanau gear and if the email requests for additional items cease today, there will be room for the wet weather and cold weather clothes as well as the Steinlager flag. And if the latest ticket promise (that they'll be delivered to the advance guard in London on Thursday) comes good, I'll be waving it at Parc Gerland on Saturday. There's still room for worry, I know, but at least there's a glimmer of hope.
As for the cup itself, Tighthead Ted of the Silver Fern had this to say about the All Blacks' performance in Marseille "...the fact that they were busting at the seams to get out there and then jogged off the field at the end shows the conditioning appears to have worked for their fitness ...the fact that they were playing so clean and error free also shows that the sharpening up part of the conditioning seems to have worked as well ...early days but they have issued a warning" Positive and encouraging words for the worrier, but then he lists his top contenders in this disconcerting order; South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, France (?), England (??). Furthermore, he says that South Africa "will be hard to beat in this tournament" and that France "are looking like quarter finalists to play NZ which is a worry, but if they keep playing so badly we should be able to knock them off" But will they keep playing so badly? Will the Springboks keep playing so well? Should we be worried, very worried?

I'm not so sure about the conditioning...it was the Italians rude behaviour during the haka that pissed the ABs' off! Always a bad move. They were out to make it a ly-ttle hard for them...!
France?...bunch of poncy pretty boy squirrels (they scrummage for nuts!)...the ABs' will be eating French toast.
England?...Johnson less (ha!) with an impotent Little Jonny.
Naturally I'm going for Gold in the Final...
Have a great time Patricia. Look forward to reading your posts.
