Kia Ora Cuisine; Dining in New Zealand with TIME Unlimited

September 25th 2009 04:27
Manaakitanga, in Maori, means hospitality. However, hospitality in Maori culture has layers of meaning. It’s not just a question of rolling out the red carpet, giving up the best beds, killing the fatted calf and providing the guests with lively entertainment, it’s doing all that with warmth, kindness, generosity and a friendly, welcoming, inclusive spirit. Manaakitanga is a cornerstone of Maoritanga, but the entire country enjoys a reputation as one of the world's most hospitable.

New Zealand also enjoys a reputation as the clean, green, 100% pure capital of the world. It is a reputation founded not just on clean, clear air, pristine waterways and virgin forests but also on the quality and purity of its produce. Macrobiotics, organics and wholefoods are hallmarks of Kiwi cuisine

TIME Unlimited brings both that legendary manaakitanga and the best of clean, green, 100% pure NZ together in its Kia Ora Cuisine experiences. These hosted dinners offer real home cooking, prepared with the finest and purest New Zealand produce, including traditional Maori delicacies, all served in gourmet style and accompanied by award-winning local wines.

But just as importantly, they offer an opportunity, not often open to tourists, to step into a local home, mingle with “real” New Zealanders, hear local viewpoints and participate in local customs. They are a time to swap stories, forge bonds and form friendships.

I think friendliness is the best gift you can provide a guest... no matter how good the meal is, you are more likely to remember a warm smile and laughter lingering in eyes.

I had no idea pavlova was a New Zealand invention! Cool.
