Bravo Les Bleus! - a lucky win for France in the RWC semi finals
October 16th 2011 05:18
Bravo Les Bleus! Contrary to almost everyone's expectations, France has made it all the way to the 2011 Rugby World Cup Final. Disillusioned followers, like Guillaume le Basque, who abandoned les Bleus after their shock loss to Tonga in the final pool game, must be wringing their berets back in l’Hexagone.
According to the experts French World Cup Rugby teams "have only one great game in them". But who would have believed that the 2011 équipe français were capable of even one great game? Certainly not Guillaume le Basque! Who would have believed too, that they could beat their arch-rival England just one week after the Tonga debacle? Certainly not the gob-smacked Poms! And who, almost to the bitter end, would have backed their win against Wales last night? Personne! It certainly wasn't a great game. It certainly wasn't a great win. It was lucky.
The question is now, I suppose, do les Bleus have one last great game in them? Will their luck see them through to a final victory?
Meanwhile the two other semi-finalists await their fate at Eden Park tonight. The Kiwis’ mood is one of “quiet calm and steely determination”, as they hope and pray that the long record of All Blacks wins against the Wallabies at Eden Park holds. The Aussies on the other hand, are loudly confident and counting on the All Blacks "choking" - "again"!
As the French would say “On verra! - que le meilleur équipe gagne!” (We'll see -- may the best team win)
Go the All Blacks!
